ACOE congratulates Kaleb Kelley for being selected as the Lisenby Primary school and Ozark City System Teacher of the Year. ACOE is proud of you and your accomplishments. Mr. Kelley is thrilled and honored to be named Lisenby Primary School’s teacher of the year and Ozark City School’s elementary teacher of the year. This is Mr. Kelley’s 7th year of teaching and he is so grateful to his principal, colleagues, and students for making him into the educator he is today.

Sachiko Green, Pelham Oaks Elementary School of the Pelham City School System

ACOE would like to congratulate member Sachiko Green on her accomplishment for being selected as one of only two Alabama teachers selected for Curriculum Associates’ Extraordinary Educators program. This is a great honor for an educator and we are very proud of her. Jonathan Bragwell, Hartselle Intermediate School in the Harstelle City School System

Jonathan Bragwell, ACOE member at Hartselle Intermediate School, was announced the 2019 National Sons of the American Revolution elementary history teacher of the year! Heather Simpson, Hueytown Elementary School in the Jefferson County School System

Congratulations to Heather Simpson who earned a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching! Heather is a kindergarten teacher at Hueytown Elementary School in Jefferson County Schools. Heather said ““Knowing that all students are capable of becoming mathematicians and engineers is the driving force behind my instruction. Receiving this prestigious award further encourages and affirms me in my work equipping young minds for the world that awaits them. I am honored and very humbled to accept the Presidential Award and am so thankful to my family, friends, administrators, and colleagues who have shaped me into the educator I am, while pushing me to become the educator I want to be.” Congratulations Heather, we are proud of you!


Karen Trotter, Bryan Elementary School in the Jefferson County School System 

Congratulations to Karen Trotter who was recognized and honored as a 2017-2018 JEFCOED Educational Support Person of the Year by the Jefferson County Board at the meeting today! Karen is the Head Custodian at Bryan ES. We are proud of you Karen!


Dana Bloodsworth, O.D. Duran Junior High School North in the Pell City School System

Pell City School System Duran North Jr. High History teacher, Mr. Dana Bloodsworth, is the Department of Alabama Veterans of Foreign Wars winner of the Outstanding Middle School Teacher  of the Year Award for 2018-2019. He is also being considered for the VFW National Teacher of the Year award. 

ACOE would also like to congratulate Mr. Dana Bloodsworth for receiving the Alabama Teacher of the Year Nominee for grades 7-12 and the JSU Hall of Fame Nominee Middle Division for grades 6-8. We are proud of his accomplishments! 


Kim Johnson, Cullman Middle School in the Cullman City School System

ACOE member Kim Johnson was selected as the Cullman City Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year. Kim, who teaches algebra and pre-algebra at Cullman MS, said “It was a great honor to be selected by my fellow educators. Holly Sutherland, St. Clair County High School in the St. Clair County School System

Jennifer Fernandez, ESL Teacher at Austinville Elementary in Decatur City School System

Jennifer was selected to serve on the State Superintendent’s Teacher Cabinet. In this position, she will be a voice for teachers in her system as well as a voice for teachers from across the state. ACOE is proud to have Jennifer on this commission representing our hard working educators. We know that she will do a great job.

Jenna Justice of Geneva County Elementary

Congratulations to Jenna Justice of Geneva County Elementary in the Geneva County School system. Jenna is a Kindergarten Teacher and has earned M.S. in Early Childhood Education. Jenna was also selected as county wide Elementary School Teacher of the Year.

I was honored to receive the title of County Wide Elementary Teacher of the Year. The award came from majority vote of my fellow co-workers. I thank my peers both past and present for molding me into the teacher that I am today. (Jenna)

Michael Courson of West Smiths Station Elementary

Congratulations to Michael Courson of West Smiths Station Elementary in the Lee County School System. Michael has been selected as the West Smiths Station Elementary 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year. Michael is a Special Education teacher and ACOE is very proud of his accomplishments.

Mrs. April Dean of Holly Pond Middle School

Mrs. April Dean’s Shark Tank entrepreneurship unit was featured earlier this school year on ABC 33/40 News. Mrs. Dean is a 6th Grade Reading Teacher, Library Media Specialist, and Yearbook Adviser at Holly Pond Middle School in Cullman County Schools.
